The Fine Line Water Soluble Marking Pen
The best marking pen for light to medium toned fabrics. When marking your quilting lines, you need marks that will stay in place, be bright enough to see while you're quilting, but still wash out when you're finished with your quilt. The Fine Line water soluble marking pen does all three things perfectly with one extra bonus: this is the only water soluble pen that produces a fine line! Unlike all other water erasable marking pens, this pinpoint tip marker produces a very fine, thin line that's easy to follow whether you're free motion quilting or using a walking foot. The Fine Line marking pens make a bright blue mark, yet the marks are easily removed with plain water. Be sure to test The Fine Line pen on a scrap of fabric before using and make sure the marks dissolve completely to your satisfaction. On rare occasions, certain dyes in the material may make the marks difficult to remove. Special Note from Leah: I've had personal experience with quilt markings not washing out with The Duchess. That's why I'm extremely careful when selecting the marking tools I use for my quilts. Trust me, the last thing you want to do is spend all your time quilting a quilt, only to find that it's ruined with permanent marks. That's why I use The Fine Line marking pens for light colored fabrics and the Soapstone fabric marker for dark fabrics. No other pen gives you as clear, clean, and easy to follow line, and no other pen washes out as easily. Make sure to follow the directions and test your fabric first. Sometimes red dyes can effect the water soluble nature of the pens. Of course, this won't be an issue if you're prewashing your fabric!
