Poor visibility is one of the biggest reasons beginning quilters get frustrated with free motion quilting. Treat yourself to increased visibility and ease of quilting! This foot has a clear circular base that allows for 360° of perfect visibility.

Straight out of the package, this foot works okay for free motion quilting. But with a few modifications, this inexpensive foot can be the best free motion foot ever!

This foot can be easily modified for even better visibility.

Watch Leah modify this foot and fit it to her machine so it works perfectly for free motion quilting:

Follow these instructions for increasing the visibility of this foot yourself:

1. Using a pair of sharp clippers or heavy duty scissors, cut diagonally along the red lines on the top of the foot.
2. Use a nail file to sand down the rough edges.
3. Using needle nose pliers, bend the top bar backward so that it no longer hits your needle bar.
4. To increase the height of your foot so that it glides smoothly over all fabrics, twist a rubber band or ponytail holder over the top of the foot.
5. Attach the foot to your machine securely and check the fit. Place a quilt sandwich on your machine and lower the foot on top. Make sure the quilt sandwich can easily slide around below the foot and is not getting squished or difficult to move.
6. If the foot feels too high, adjust the band to take up less space on the top. If the foot feels too low, adjust the band to take up more space on the top.

This foot is generic and will fit most machines depending on your machine shank.

How to tell what type of shank you have:

1. Place your regular sewing foot (also called the Zigzag foot) on your machine and lower the presserfoot. Look at where the screw attaches the foot to your machine:

Higher screw placement means a High Shank Machine!

Lower screw placement means a Low Shank Machine!

2. You can easily see the difference between the two types of feet from this photo:

See how much lower the hole is on the low shank foot? It's very easy to tell what foot you have if you can compare them to these photos.

Bernina and Slant Shank Singer Machines are not compatible with this generic foot.
