Sunrise, Sunset

Created Fall 2007

I'd been wanting to create a sunrise quilt for some time. Every time I set down to design it, I kept getting bogged down with images of hilly landscapes and suns. Eventually I realized that what I wanted was the colors of the sunrise, not the images. I hand painted the fabric for this quilt, then densely quilted in the background with black thread. Each square of fabric is shot through with a thread of matching color, like the rays of the sun.
