Note: Strips of fabric are typically 44" long if they are cut on the widthwise grain of the fabric. Fold your selvages together (the printed edges of fabric) and cut from selvage to selvage to make your strips. Piecing First lay your batik blocks out on a flat surface and arrange into the 5 x 6 block layout of your quilt. Next, chain piece the sashing 3.5" x 9.5" rectangles in between each block to create 6 long strips of 5 blocks each. Next, piece together 2 of the 3 1/2" sashing strips to for one really long strip. Do this 8 more times for for a total of 9 really long strips. Square off the ends of 5 of the strips and piece them in between the block strips. This will form the core of your quilt top. Take the remaining 4 strips and attach one to the top and one to the bottom of the quilt. Square off the ends. Piece the last to strips to the 2 sides of the quilt and square again. Borders Piece together 2 of the 7 1/2" strips to form one really long strip. Do this 3 more times for a total of 4 really long strips. Attach one strip to the left side and one strip to the right side. Square up the quilt top. Attach the last two strips to the top and bottom of the quilt top. Press and square off the ends to finish. Note: I press all seams open to ensure accurate piecing and easy quilting. Click Here for More Quilting Patterns and Designs
